As we step blinking into the sun after the latest lockdown I am aware that we are very busy over the next few months with many groups and families coming to stay. I am often asked 'what is there to do in the local area?'. Although I can confidently suggest many beaches, towns and places to walk your dogs which I know will be open there are still lots of attractions which require a bit more forward planning.
We are very lucky to have several National Trust places close to us, Kingston Lacy near Wimborne and Stourhead Gardens near Mere are two very popular ones. Whilst I would always recommend these places it is currently necessary to book these before you arrive, please do not get caught short and just turn up - I would hate anyone to be disappointed!
Many of the wonderful places I take my children on days out are also open again with booking systems in place. I would suggest Farmer Palmers, Adventure Wonderland, Paulton's Park and The Tank Museum. Please do check online before you go to avoid sad faces if you are turned away for not having a ticket!
All of our lovely pubs and restaurants are desperate to welcome tourists again but the same principle applies, please book well in advance to ensure you and your party can be accommodated. For larger groups looking to eat outdoors I would suggest the Langton Arms at Tarrant Launceston, the Museum Inn at Farnham, the Cricketers at Shroton and Home Farm Shop at Tarrant Gunville.
Happy (albeit a bit organised) holidays!
